Swift Project Blog 2026

Updated: 6 days ago

6th June 2026

The weather today has been truly awful for the swifts. It’s been wet and very windy. Regardless of this, one of the pair has been out of the box most of the day.

They still have the two eggs and are not incubating. Maybe a third is due to come along in the next couple of days.

I am working on getting this camera streamed live on YouTube. Hopefully this can be achieved tomorrow.

5th June 2026

Overnight and into the morning a second egg has been laid. It also looks as if one has once again been pushed out of the nest cup. After watching Sonic & Skye for so long now, it’s really clear to me that this must be their first breeding attempt, making them probably 3 years old.

After an intial downpour this morning, the weather picked up a little meaning Sonic and Skye have spent the majority of the day out of the box. Even thought there is a strong wind, this wont stop swifts from flying.

4th June 2026

After a single egg was laid on the 2nd June, I have been watching our swift pair, Sonic & Skye, very closely. Today, one of the birds has started to display incubating behaviour. This is a great sign as initially they were very clumsy with the sole egg and it ended up rolling around the box for a while.

Now that they have managed to get it back into the nest cup, they seem a little more careful with it. Hopefully the is good news going forward however I still remain skeptical that they will succeed in breeding this year. They look extremely inexperienced.
